High School Guidance Activities
Outlined below are the major activities or events for which the guidance and counseling department is directly responsible and which are available to all high school students. The 10-month planning calendar (also below) outlines when these activities take place along with other opportunites available to students.
Transition Activities (8th to 9th grade):
Freshmen Registration Nights - parents & students (late February)
High School Tours for 8th graders (late May)
Freshman Transition Day (the day before school begins in August)
Freshmen:
Academy visits (Mondays all year)
Career interest Inventory in personal account on Missouri Connections
Career Day (early March, right before requesting classes for 10th grade)
Sophomores:
PLAN Testing (late Sept or early Oct)
1-on-1 interview to discuss PLAN results, career interests, and post-secondary goals
Juniors:
Career/Post-Secondary Planning on Missouri Connections account (October)
Making Your College Search Count presentation (late March)
Seniors:
College Fair (late September or early October)
Senior Interviews to review post-secondary goals et al with counselor (fall)
Financial Aid Night - parents & students (mid-January)
Individual plans for seniors in jeopardy of not graduating -
results-based counseling (all year)
